Romeo and Juliet
Star-crossed lovers. Unrequited love.
They’re alternative endings to the ‘happily ever after’ formulaic romance.
Love has provided the theme for music, art and literature for centuries. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet has formed the basis of many derivative narratives, despite their different settings and added elements (Westside Story, Wuthering Heights, Twilight and the Hunger Games for starters)!

Here’s a glimpse of the story using clips from Zefferelli’s movie version of the play (1968) and the original theme song. Personally, this is my favourite film version of the play – perhaps not as clever as Luhrman’s, but certainly more romantic!
Renowned young adult author John Green (The Fault in our Stars, Paper Towns, Looking for Alaska) narrates the following two short films examining the themes of Romeo and Juliet. They’re well worth watching.
