‘The Girl Who Knew’ by Sandra Glover

girl who knewThe gifts of levitating objects and seeing the future have been classified as myths for a long time. But after the car accident with her friend Lisa, Kits can’t be so sure about that. Frequently in dreams, Kits has seen glimpses of the future. And with the right amount of concentration she can lift objects from the ground only using her head. But no one believes her about these strange gifts, so when Kits sees Lisa’s life in trouble, who does she turn to? This book is a gripping tale about a girl whose life has been tuned upside down in one split second accident. It is a great book that has a great storyline and I would recommend it to all teen readers who are interested in thrill and mystery. Holly, Year 8 http://www.sandraglover.co.uk/

‘Midnighters: The Secret Hour’ by Scott Westerfeld

secret hourSo far I have read halfway through the book and I am enjoying it. It can be a bit confusing at times, especially when it tells you about the history of the town, but apart from that I’m enjoying reading the book. Wondering what will happen next is what I like in a book. I like the character Jessica because she is very brave to take on becoming a Midnighter. With the help of her friends I’m sure she will be safe, though. I would recommend this book to readers who like exciting books. It is definitely worth reading. Kassidy, Year 8
Jessica Day was an ordinary girl from Chicago, until she moved to Bixby, Oklahoma. She soon realises that she is not too normal at all. Along with her new found friends, Jessica finds out she’s special, but that’s definitely not what Jessica makes out of it. Each night at the hour of midnight, there is a secret hour allowing everything to freeze, except dark creatures and Jessica and her group of friends known as the ‘Midnighters’. So far this book is very exciting and you never know what’s going to be on the next page. It is an on-edge and thrilling read which you don’t want to put down. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about a thrilling and capturing book. Tyla, Year 8

Personally I don’t like this book. It does, however, has a good opening for a book of its type. Many of the characters are introduced with mystery. The one that interests me the most is Rex. He is a quiet kid who keeps to himself and wears shades, which are later explained; he can’t see anything without them. I wouldn’t recommend this book to many people. Conor, Year 8

This book is a twisting story that will keep you reading ‘til the end!

An action packed novel and the first of the trilogy ‘Midnighters’, is based in a small town called Bixby. Jessica Day, the main character in the book has just moved into her new house and the first night starts to get quite strange. My favourite part of the book is when Jessica realizes that the amazing things that happen around her are not in her dreams, it’s really happening! The story is all based around this secret hour, a split second past 12:00 pm, that only some people including Jessica Day can be in. An all round great story! Bailey, Year 8.

Jessica Day is a girl who has moved from the city of Chicago to the town of Bixby, Oklahoma. What she does not know is that she is different to all her peers. Jessica Day is my favorite character in the book because she is scared but wants to have fun. It is a good book and I would give it 7/10. It is a fantasy book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes fictional novels.  Alley, Year 8  http://scottwesterfeld.com/blog/
