‘Legend’ by Marie Lu

legend_coverThe plague is destroying our nation by the minute. Two colonies, one war. Who will win?

As the story begins, we jump into the story of Day, a young boy with a lot on his shoulders. Day has run away from home to protect his family, but suddenly his life has changed, his younger brother has got the plague and now he must save his family. His friend Tess, who has been helping him ever since he ran away from home, accompanies Day. But there’s only one catch, Day must save his family but not let his family know he is still alive. Day sets out to go on a solo night mission alone to get a cure for the plague so then his brother will be saved and the rest of the family will not get the plague either. In the process of getting a cure, Day runs into a roadblock. A military soldier has caught him stealing the cure; Day is forced to fight and wounds the soldier, not knowing his name – Metias. Now we jump to the story of June, a young lady with high hopes. June aced her final exam and was put into military school. Her brother Metias, a military squad captain, was known for his skills and bravery. Metias’ best friend, Tomas, tells June that Metias has been killed. June sets out to find her dead brother’s killer and goes on an epic journey of adventure and friendship with the enemy she doesn’t even know. The rest of the story has many twists and turns throughout and is a wonderful read.

I would recommend this novel to teens of any age that love an action packed adventure with plot twists. This novel definitely deserves a 10 out of 10.    Cam,  Year 9
